A deal with TwentyOnePowers A deal towards liberation
We have seen lots of reggae/dancehall music hits put out over the years which were made by female artists. But the environment is not all that conducive for women to thrive and blossom as they should in the music industry. Even though the genre has become a male-dominated one, we are looking at ways to change the narrative and give dancehall ladies the promotion they deserve. TwentyOnePowers is a brand established to achieve just that. We want to make the dreams of female dancehall/reggae artists come to pass.
Female dancehall artists have made their impact and continued to do so in the industry, but they are often sidelined by promoters, DJs and even other artists. This is where TwentyOnePowers Promotions is stepping in with “Equal promotion for all.” There's no denying that there are more male artists than there are females and the males have more representation and opportunities than the female artists. At TwentyOnePowers, we intend to bridge this gap and give everyone equal space and shine.
Dancehall music has been around for a little over four decades now, and for women to break the mold of a male-dominated world, they have to be good. Any woman who wishes to stand tall has to do double the work that even the men do. The opportunities come to men easily while women have to work for it, most times putting in double the efforts that the men put. This is not to say that we haven't had prominent and well-established female artists who have released monster hits. But they are only a few, and there is the problem of sustainability. After their monster hit, they tend to easily find their way out of the scene even though the talent is there more than what is obtainable in the seemingly bigger acts. We need to change this narrative actively. And for anyone who thinks female artists cannot measure up to men in terms of (sexually) explicit lyrics, they couldn't have been more wrong. Dancehall ladies who put out the explicit lyrics hardly talk about how they were poorly treated by a man even though a lot of male artists sing about heartbreaks. These women show the world how strong and in control they are. They talk about how much of a dominant force they are, how strong they are, and yet, we have a world who does not give a hoot about putting them on the map with equal opportunities as the men.
TwentyOnePowers Promotions is a music promoter looking to bring back the good old days where Dancehall ladies like Patra dominated the airwaves while adding a touch of difference by giving female artists the opportunity to headline and sell out shows. A promotion deal with Twenty-One Powers is a deal towards liberation, freedom and equal opportunities for all. Women are making strides in every facet of the world, why not music too, especially reggae/dancehall music?
